California Appeals Court Revives Case Alleging Carcinogen in Grilled Chicken

A California appeals court has revived a case that alleges the chicken-grilling process used by McDonald’s Corp., TGI Friday’s Inc. and other restaurant chains creates a cancer-causing chemical that requires them to warn consumers in the state.
California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal on Thursday reversed a lower court’s grant of summary judgment in favor of the restaurant chains, finding that a federal law for cooking raw chicken could not preempt Proposition 65 warnings that grilled chicken contained a known carcinogen.
